Sara Ferrer has dedicated her artistic work to water and oceans in particular, ever since her first diving experience, where she encountered an almost desolate seabed, save for some Giant Pen Shells embedded in the sand, resembling tombstones in a cemetery. Since then, she has felt the urgency to raise awareness about our relationship with the sea, both through art and as a diving instructor.
We ourselves are largely composed of water, dependent on it, and without caring for the way we relate to it, this could be the greatest threat to the habitats of oceans, lakes, and rivers.
With "Fishing the Soul," Sara encapsulates a profound metaphorical narrative that delves into the realms of overfishing and overconsumption, particularly in the context of the art world. But Sara Ferrer also raises the question: How can we better care for the oceans and underwater life? How can we raise awareness more effectively among people? She describes her own diving experience as a more intense relationship with herself and her inner self as she moved meters below the water's surface. For her, this also created a closeness with the underwater world and with what is closest to us: objects, animals, people, so that we also feel more responsible. (S.F.)
